Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), also commonly referred to as Permanent Residence, allows applicants to reside and work in the UK without any time restrictions. The status allows immigrants to settle in the United Kingdom and allows them to naturalize later as British citizens. The applicants very often use the phrases Indefinite Leave to Remain UK (ILR) and Permanent Residence interchangeably. This is incorrect though. Permanent Residence refers to residency status for EEA citizens and members of their families.
