What is CAD?

Earlier all the designs & Drafts used to be done on drawing paper. But as the time changed CAD came into existence. CAD stands for Computer Aided Design. CAD is a software which is used for drawing 2D and 3D designs with the help of a computer. In general it is used to create and manipulate geometric shapes into specific designs. CAD applications allow designers to work together from anywhere in the world via the Internet. CAD applications eliminate the need for the teams of onsite designers or drafters who beforehand used to do hands-on drafting. Some of the software used in CAD are Solidworks, Catia, Pro-e, MicroStation, Autodesk inventor, Unigraphics and Solid Edge etc.

It is mainly used by the people from mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and civil engineering sectors, building engineers, professionals in the field of construction, architectural sector, manufacturing industry, automobile designing industry etc.

This technology is broadly classified into –

  • 2D CAD software,
  • 3D CAD software,
  • 3D wireframe and surface modelling, and
  • solid modelling

Types of University CAD Assignments

University students are assigned different types of assignments throughout their course tenure, such as essays, case studies, literature reviews, dissertations, reports, research proposals and reflective writing.

  • Essays – It is a kind of CAD write-up where writers need to answer a question by presenting an argument supported by relevant facts and evidence.
  • Case Studies – CAD case study involves investigating a situation. Both positives and negatives are taken into consideration which helps in giving recommendations based on certain facts as reflected in the case study.

  • Dissertations – A doctoral dissertation shows the ability of a researcher to conduct an original research that makes some contribution to the existing research.
  • Reports – An academic report is an essential part of different fields of study, such as CAD, physics, chemistry, biology, sociology, humanities and political science. It conveys information learned during reading and experimenting different things.
  • Research Proposals – It refers to a research project. The CAD proposals are evaluated on the basis of their cost and budget as well as potential impact of their research. Their main motive is requesting for sponsorship of the research.
